Cineform convert, no upscaling or anything else... then see if the audio is in there... if it is then you...

Open HD link... go to prefs, chose resize video to the size you want, close prefs, click Convert tab and select either the folder with the files or the select files for convert, click start

bring the footage/audio onto the timeline... right click on the footage and choose " unlink "

now you can slide the audio to get it...

you should download Cineform and try it out for yourself... it has lots to offer and
for your situation at the minimum it will convert your HD footage to where you are thinking
your still in SD...

also of good habit is to pre run your tape at least 10 seconds before you record the good stuff... just put your hand over the lens and hit record......

Its OK to change the names of the footage as long as its before you put them into an NLE.

If you do it after putting them into a project the project will complain that it can't find the
files......
