Adding unwanted files to project

Whenever I click the diskette icon above the preview window to save the current view in a a PNG file, it adds that file to the project without asking my permission. This is so annoying! Why on Earth would I want it in the project that creates it in the first place?

Is there a way to disable it annoyance? I am using Vegas 15 (I used to upgrade to every other version but have seen no point doing it ever since Magix took over, so please do not tell me to get the latest version).

Re: Adding unwanted files to project

I can think of a few good reasons, like titles, or if you just want to stop action. Vegas has always done it that way, and still doing it. Since it only adds your still (either .png or.jpg) to the project media rather than the timeline, I regard it as much more of a convenience than an annoyance. Possibly a script could do what you want, or if you just set your project media to "Media By Type">"Video" you'll only see the video and not be annoyed by added stills.

Re: Adding unwanted files to project

That "disk" button above the preview screen is to "Save a snapshot of the current frame". VEGAS Then assumes you want to use that snapshot so it adds it to the Project Media making it easy to drag to the timeline for use. From the help file:

The Save Snapshot to File dialog is displayed to allow you to choose the format and location where you want to save the file. The file is automatically added to the Project Media list.

The latest version does it exactly the same way and I don't see any way to turn that off.

Remember, you can always click the "Remove all unused media from project" button on the Project Media tab. And, as Rainer said, you could use a script to save the current frame and it would not be added to the Project Media tab. See my tutorial here:

Re: Adding unwanted files to project

Well, thanks everyone. But to me it is just extra work. I thought in the past there was an option in the file save dialog for it not to be added but I do not see it there now. I have been using Vegas for way too more years than I care to admit to, and not a single time did I want to add a snapshot to the project (I use them as external reference to whatever I am doing), so yes, to me it is an annoyance. Especially now in the old age.

Anyway, thanks.
