How can I prevent stretching an image?

I have included a small, 577x502 image in a Vegas project, and Vegas (Pro 14) stretches it to fit the full height. It looks terrible because it is a 4k video. I don’t want it stretched, I want it to keep its 577x502 dimensions without being ridiculously zoomed out.

So, I tried going to Event Pan/Crop and selected No for Stretch to fill frame. It thinks it knows better than me and keeps stretching it. If I try to resize it with the handles, it crops it instead. This is very frustrating. How can I reason with it and make it not stretch this image (while stretching/shrinking other images)?

In the Pan & Crop window, set your Position Height and Width to your project resolution (1920, 1080).
Set Stretch to Fill to Yes,
Check the Zoom value, it's probably over 100%, set to about 40 (for a 1920 x 1080 project).

See if that helps.

In the crop window de-select the lock aspect ratio icon. Set source "maintain aspect ratio" to no and scale to any size you want.
