Vegas load times VP13 and VP14

Following a recent series of crashes in VP14 (documented in another thread) I have had the pleasure of loading up Vegas many times in quick succession.

I've just noticed that VP14 takes waaaay longer to load than VP13.

I timed five successive loads of both versions and found that while VP13 loads in an average of 13.5 seconds (quickest 12.5, slowest 14), VP 14 takes a whopping great 60 seconds on average to load! The quickest was 56 seconds and the slowest was 62.

In both versions it's the 'creating windows' sequence that takes the longest, accounting for approximately 50 seconds in VP14.

Is it just me?

Re: Vegas load times VP13 and VP14

Very good question. Yes, it was. You had me wondering whether it was because it was trying to load up the previously crashed project (see my other thread today) but I have just tried it without a project in memory, closing it down then restarting Vegas and i's still taking around a minute to load.

Does anyone know what is happening during th 'building windows' sequence? What exactly is going on behind the scenes? All the other sequences are finished within the first 7 to 10 seconds.

Strange. On my computer it takes 7 seconds from the time I double-click on VP14 link to the time it is fully open. About half of it is spent in the Creating Windows sequence, though.

Re: Vegas load times VP13 and VP14

Interesting. I'm guessing that with load times like that you are running it from a SSD? Worryingly, so am I!

I use Cinema 4d for 3d work and animation and even that takes under ten seconds to load.

Do you have many third party plugins installed? I have a ton of NewBlueFX, Boris CC9, HitFilm and others and I'm wondering whether that is having an effect on loading time. But then again, they are all available to VP13 which loads quickly.

I'd like to know what's happening at each stage of the Vegas boot sequence.

There is a way to reset Vegas to factory settings. You try that and see what changes.
Unfortunately I forgot the combination of keys you have to press.

It's Ctrl-Shift. No effect sadly (plus I have also only just uninstalled and reinstalled Vegas so presumably it has the default settings anyway).

I'm thinking there might be an issue with the number of plugins so I may try uninstalling them all and reinstalling them.

Yes, I’m running from an SSD. As for plug-ins, I have those that came with the Vegas Pro 14 Suite, nothing else.
