Rendering UHD in Vegas 10
Hi Guys
I wanted to render some 4K video out to an MP4 file ..Vegas recognises the source file and editing is all excellent but when it comes to rendering out to an MP4 there are no presets for anything larger than 1920x1080! If I try to customise the preset with a custom size video size as soon as I put the second parameter in it immediately changes my first parameter back to 1920!! Any ideas why it would do this??? sorry... was going to check 11 but forgotten i removed it...
you might look at catalyst browse - it'll spit out uhd from any input.

Re: Rendering UHD in Vegas 10
Thanks
That's a good idea thanks ! I had a demo of Catalyst ... Would I just need the Browse software bit? I can edit fine in Pro 10 and preview ..it's just that I cannot render out the time line to anything more than 1920x1080. Maybe it's time to upgrade to Pro 13 now??? Chris |

Re: Rendering UHD in Vegas 10
Chris, I just had a look at Catalyst Browse and the only output format that supports 4K is XAVC Intra.
Sorry :( |

Re: Rendering UHD in Vegas 10
Thanks Guys
An update it is then!! That should solve the problem easily. I'm also wondering if an update might solve the issue of 4K and slomo (100fps) video clips not playing in Windows Media Player? I don't even get a thumbnail on those clips in the folder but Vegas 10 plays them with no issues. Chris |

Re: Rendering UHD in Vegas 10
there appears to be a few problems with wmp and some variants of 4k. vlc is purported to be ok as long as your hardware is upto it.....

Re: Rendering UHD in Vegas 10
Just an update
Vegas 13 renders UHD OK but not with the Sony AVC profile! The Sony Profile has a UHD preset but it defaults to 1920x1080 for the render ..you can change the size to 3840x2160 but it reports an error. The only one that seems to work is the Mainconcept MP4 template but you have to customise it to work. I wonder if the YouTube 4K videos you see are actually renders from UHD to 1080 or do users actually upload a UHD file that's 3840x2160??? Chris |

You can upload a UHD file at 3840x2160 to Youtube, including using XAVC S. |

Re: Rendering UHD in Vegas 10
Thanks a million Mark!!
If I choose XAVC S I can go directly to a 3840x2160 25P preset ... thats perfect!! Much appreciated! Chris |

Re: Rendering UHD in Vegas 10
Ok one last question!!
I want to send a 3840x2160 clip up to YouTube but in Vegas 13 if you use the XAVC -S preset it works perfectly but encodes at over 100 mbps!! I did a test clip of 50 seconds and it was 750mb!! It still uploads to YouTube BUT my computer struggles to play it and they suggest a bit rate between 35 and 45 mbps so I assume that's why it buffers so much?? The XAVC template doesn't allow you to change or even see the bit rate and if I watch other YouTube 4K videos they play smoothly so they must be a lower bitrate or maybe they are 4K rendered down to 1080??? Any ideas how to render a UHD MP4 for YouTube so the bit rate is within their specs in Vegas 13??? Any help would be much appreciated Chris |

Re: Rendering UHD in Vegas 10
Higher bitrate = better quality
I use 100 Mbit XAVC-S in YT and also in my cameras. |

Re: Rendering UHD in Vegas 10
Thanks Juris
However 100mbps is not practical for YT as the files are so massive they take ages to upload and need to buffer on playback! YT suggest 35 to 45 but you cannot change the XAVC preset's bitrate!! |
