Black line and audio drop at the end

Hi everyone,

Every clip after importing to vegas have this black line and audio silence for about 1 sec.

http://s12.postimg.org/waid7y3kd/black_line.png

What is it? And how to fix it?

Please.

Thank you.

Re: Black line and audio drop at the end

What camera, what codec, how are you importing clips? Are you using any additional software to import the clips to your computer?

This looks like the end of the clip is corrupted. Is this only the last frame or two? If so, the quick fix would typically be to trim the end of the clip and lose those bad frames.

But it would be good to know where in the chain the clip was corrupted.

It looks like HDV import from HVR-DR60 or something like that without using the Device Explorer.

Re: Black line and audio drop at the end

I'm using sony z5, importing directly from the card to the hard drive and dropping files to sony vegas timeline. The problem is that all single files are like that. Also to trim the ends is not the option sometimes. For instance, when I shoot for a long time the file splits automatically, and if I trim and join them together I'm loosing a second of a video & audio.

It maybe helps importing the files using the Vegas Pro Device Explorer. This way spanned files should be merged automatically and you shouldn't get this problem.

Re: Black line and audio drop at the end

Usually, I just go to a dos prompt, browse to that folder, and the use the copy command:

copy /b file1.ext+file2ext+file3ext bigfile.ext

Where files 1, 2, and 3 are your individual files and "bigfile" will be whatever you wish your new combined file name to be.

Hi Edward,
sorry, but I'm not quite sure how to do it....Is it possible to explain it in more detail? Thanks

Re: Black line and audio drop at the end

You have to go back to DOS to do that. You have to open a Command Prompt window.

Then you have to move to the folder where the files are. If they are in D:\My Video Files you would enter:

CD "D:\My Video Files"

Now let's say you have 0001.mts, 0002.mts, and 0003.mts and you want them all combined. Let's combine them to "FullVideo.mts". You would enter:

copy /b 0001.mts+0002.mts+0003.mts FullVideo.mts

Now you can load FullVideo.mts in your project.

By DOS prompt he means the command prompt, which looks and acts like the old MS DOS.

Depending on the version of Windows, you have to get to the run command and type either cmd or command (cmd in the most recent versions of Windows). That will open a special window with the black background and with the white command prompt that looks something like C:\> or maybe C:\Windows>, again depending on the version of Windows and the way your system is configured.

are you trying with the original card / recorder or the files already downloaded?

i have seen this many times on files simply transferred from my cf card to hd, but using either the ru-utility or device manger has always given me clean clips....
