Vegas Laptop at DVinfo.net

Been a long time since I was here, but thought I'd post some info on a new laptop I just got. It's a Gigabyte P34G, 14" AHVA screen (similar to IPS), Core i7 4700HQ quad, 8 threads 2.4 - 3.4Ghz, 8 GB Ram, 128mSSD, 1TB 5400rpm HDD Nvidia GTX760.
I'm pretty blown away with performance on this machine, I am coming from a 4 year old Vaio Core2Duo P8700, so a big change. Did a quick playback/render test against my desktop, an overclocked 4770K.

Its a year old but I'm pretty impressed with running Vegas Pro 12 on it. I'm a recent convert from Adobe. I don't really edit a lot on the laptop but start all my media asset management with it and I will start a project and cut on it when I travel. I have done some rendering just to see how far I can push it and Vegas is surprising me. I always had a hard time with the UI in Vegas but I'm past it now and enjoying the power that's under the hood.

Mike,

Be aware of using 5400 rpm harddrives with an i7 laptop. The HD isn't just keeeping up with the speed of the i7 processor. So it's kind of useless, at least when rendering video files. You better look for a 7200 rpm HD or, even better, a SSD.
