Pleae help with capture problem

No matter what deck or camcorder I connect I continue to get this message.

The device "Canon XL2" could not be opened.

Please make sure that it is turned on and is not being used by another application or user.

I checked and the computer lists the camcorder as being connected. This has just started to happen. Any suggestions? Bob

Re: Pleae help with capture problem

Are you using the "external" capture application for Standard Def? The XL2 is SD, yes? If so, the "internal" capture app won't work with it.

Also, you may need to change to the "Legacy" firewire driver.

Re: Pleae help with capture problem

Seth, thanks for the reply. I have not changed any settings since I started useing Pro 10. This just happened over the weekend. What I ended up doing was to copy my DV tape to a DVD, then capture the footage off the DVD. That at least worked so I can edit the video

Ed, what is a "Legacy" firewire drive? Do you think that my video capture card needs replacement?

Do you think upgrading to Vegas 12 would help?

Thank you both for responding. Bob

Do a search on Google for "Legacy Firewire Driver"

To get devices like the Canon XL2 to work on Win7, you need to use the legacy driver.

Re: Pleae help with capture problem

In a pinch Bob, I've used Windows Movie Maker to capture when I had issues with Vegas capture.

Ed, you are truely the Vegas guru. I downloaded the "Legacy Firewire Driver", and everything works perfect. I am now a happy, happy editor. Thanks to all of you for your help. Happy Thanksgiving. Bob
