Getting new PC -want to run Ubuntu & Vegas pro, will it work well?
Right now I am currently running Vegas movie studio 9. I plan on getting a new PC, run Ubuntu Mint & either keep Vegas Movie Studio 9 or upgrade to Vegas Pro. Is anyone running Linux Mint or other Linux with Vegas & if so, does it work better, same as Windows, or worse?
For the record, I will get at least 12gb of ram, run a i7 top of the line processor, & spec the PC out to run Vegas well. |

I tried this with Vegas 9, got nowhere.
I'm not right up to date but I think it only works in 32bit. Really interested to see how you go. Please report back.

^^^ I use Ubuntu when I can avoid Windows. Quicker, virus free.

A friend of mine that is into Linux claims the way to go is to run Windows as an iso image over ubuntu. He said I will have all the advantages of Linux & the OS Vegas likes.

I seriously doubt you can get Vegas running properly under Wine. You can certainly install Windows in a virtual machine inside Linux and install Vegas, but you will never get the same performance as in a native Windows environment, plus you may run into some issues (like firewire connections or graphic card performance for example).
Personally I don't see the point. If you want Ubuntu for web browsing, a much better option IMO is to install Ubuntu in a virtual machine under Windows, and not the other way round, or to do a dual boot install. Anyway, good luck and if you do get Vegas running to your satisfaction under Linux, please do post your findings :) |

why not simply dual boot?

^^ I certainly can & may dual boot. I might go for iso image, see if it runs well & if not, simply go dual boot.

Dual booting can often be a PITA. If you have a fast computer with plenty of RAM there's a lot you can do with a virtual machine, and basically run multiple OS environments at the the same time. It's really great.
Unfortunately, Vegas Pro is a complex and demanding software. Personally I wouldn't think of doing any serious work with it on a virtual machine. |
