problem connecting camcorder

I'm hoping someone has run across this before and can offer a suggestion.
A department in the college I work at recently bought a Sony HXR-NX70 camcorder.
We had it successfully hooked up and copied footage from it in our main edit suite last week (Pro 10, XP Pro, SP3).
They brought it down this week to get some footage off of it to edit and I could not the computer to see the camera at all.
I took it into another edit suite (Pro 8, XP Pro, SP2), hooked it up and it worked as expected.
I've been hooking up USB-based camcorders all week so I know it's not a connection issue.
When I look at "My Computer", the camera is listed as another drive yet the computer refuses to let me open it up.
Any and all ideas greatly appreciated.

I'm interpreting your scenario as describing 2 computers where the cam is recognized, while a third (yours) does not recognize it. Could it be a missing driver on your comp?

Re: problem connecting camcorder

Leslie, these machines aren't connected to the net to nothing has been changed on them.
I'll try doing a roll back when I'm back in the office next week.

Sam, it was working on my primary edit machine a week ago but now the computer no longer sees the camera.
I hooked it up in another Vegas suite and it worked (i.e. got recognized) immediately.

Re: problem connecting camcorder

I'm ashamed to admit that the solution was to leave the camcorder plugged in for longer than the usual 10 seconds :)
I finally had a chance to try it again yesterday.
I plugged in and waited and waited and waited and ...
After at least a minute, the "New device found. What do you want to do?" dialog box popped up and I was back in business.
The strange thing is that on any other computer, that same box popped up in less than 10 seconds.
Oh well, I now know that I have to be more patient than I normally am.
