Why is Vegas acting up, aka What am I doing wrong?
I have a DVD of an old music concert (some children music) that was made in the 90s. My kids want to listen to the music while in the car. So I ripped the DVD to my hard drive. There is the Video_TS folder. I opened it up and found several different types of files. I want to import the files that contain the video and audio to Vegas: these files are the largest in size, and all end with the suffix . VOB.
I dragged them all to the Vegas timeline. The following error message popped up, and Vegas shut down. __________________________________________________________________________________ Sony Vegas Pro 8.0 Version 8.0c (Build 260) Exception 0xC0000005 (access violation) WRITE:0x6110000 IP:0x24A02BE1 In Module 'mcdddec.dll' at Address 0x24A00000 + 0x2BE1 Thread: AsyncPreroll ID=0xA48 Stack=0x630F000-0x6310000 Registers: EAX=00003920 CS=001b EIP=24a02be1 EFLGS=00010202 EBX=10d89520 SS=0023 ESP=0630fe4c EBP=00000000 ECX=00000a53 DS=0023 ESI=06110000 FS=003b EDX=00000000 ES=0023 EDI=00000006 GS=0000 Bytes at CS:EIP: 24A02BE1: 66 89 0E 83 C6 02 4F 75 f.....Ou 24A02BE9: 9A 8B 7C 24 10 8B 44 24 ..|.D$ Stack Dump: 0630FE4C: 10D92CB4 10860000 + 532CB4 0630FE50: 0610D000 05E10000 + 2FD000 0630FE54: 0005FA00 00030000 + 2FA00 0630FE58: 10D74008 10860000 + 514008 0630FE5C: 00000006 0630FE60: 24A01868 24A00000 + 1868 (mcdddec.dll) 0630FE64: 00000200 0630FE68: 00000A53 0630FE6C: 000007DC 0630FE70: 0E160020 0E160000 + 20 0630FE74: 0002D000 0630FE78: 0000BB80 0630FE7C: 0610D000 05E10000 + 2FD000 0630FE80: 00000700 0630FE84: 0005FA00 00030000 + 2FA00 0630FE88: 23206DF6 23200000 + 6DF6 (mcmpegin.dll) > 0630FEBC: 23205977 23200000 + 5977 (mcmpegin.dll) > 0630FEDC: 7C802600 7C800000 + 2600 (KERNEL32.dll) > 0630FEE0: 7C802542 7C800000 + 2542 (KERNEL32.dll) > 0630FEEC: 33BBA440 33BB0000 + A440 (mcplug.dll) > 0630FF0C: 0068A86B 00400000 + 28A86B (vegas80.exe) 0630FF10: 066F984C 06310000 + 3E984C 0630FF14: 000C0000 00030000 + 90000 0630FF18: 00000000 0630FF1C: 060E0000 05E10000 + 2D0000 > 0630FF48: 0068F653 00400000 + 28F653 (vegas80.exe) 0630FF4C: 00000008 > 0630FF50: 00AEBE48 00400000 + 6EBE48 (vegas80.exe) > 0630FF54: 00AEBE60 00400000 + 6EBE60 (vegas80.exe) 0630FF58: 00000002 0630FF5C: 000C0000 00030000 + 90000 0630FF60: 00000000 0630FF64: 00000000 > 0630FF80: 00AEC5E0 00400000 + 6EC5E0 (vegas80.exe) 0630FF84: 00000020 0630FF88: 00000000 0630FF8C: 00000001 0630FF90: 80004001 > 0630FFA8: 00848D22 00400000 + 448D22 (vegas80.exe) - - - 0630FFF0: 00000000 0630FFF4: 0068F410 00400000 + 28F410 (vegas80.exe) 0630FFF8: 0234F0E0 02250000 + FF0E0 0630FFFC: 00000000 ___________________________________________________________________________________ What's going on? A few years back I was able to import a standard movie DVD, much like this one, to the timeline, then delete the video, and rendered the audio out to mp3, and put those mp3 files on a CD and played in my car. I forgot the exact steps that I took. Thanks, |

Aarghh! Same thing happened.
"An error occurred during the current operation. An Exception has occurred" I then clicked on "Details", and the same gibberish explanation is displayed, which I listed in my post above. What does it mean, "an exception"? Is that even English? Geez. |

Follow Leslie's suggestion.
File - Import - DVD Camcorder Disc. Be patient while the VOBs are converted to MPEGs. |

Re: Why is Vegas acting up, aka What am I doing wrong?
Hi Norris,
Seems to be a bug in Vegas 8c, not sure if there's a fix. Although it is a common crash in XP sp2 see this 0xC0000005 Access Violation Error and vegas see this www.jetdv.com :: View topic - I've a problem with 'mcdddec.dll' Could also be bad ram in your computer and the huge vob file you are loading is trying to access it. How much ram have you got in your machine. Did you know there is a Vegas 8.1 It might be a free update to 8.0c, worth a try.
