After Effects and Vegas
I'm just curious.
Is Adobe After Effects something more than Vegas, and something you'd use along side it - or is it redundant if you use Vegas? I just won it, but don't know if I can actually use it or not. There's no point obviously if Vegas does what it does. Gavin |

does after effects plug into Vegas, like Magic Bullet or other effects or is it stand alone?

AFX is an amazing program, no doubt, I use it all the time.
It is a completely different animal to Vegas however and one doesn't replace the other. Try cutting up a clip in AFX, its a pain, its not an NLE. Its meant to be used along side Premiere Pro ( the Adobe version of Vegas ). If only Sony would bring out a similar product to AFX or Apple Motion, that we could use along side Vegas..... OMG, even the thought of it is exciting :)

I agre with Gerald. I consider AE to be a tool to make clips like special effects and titles that I then drop into Vegas.
When it comes to editing speed and simplicity, Vegas is the runaway winner. Even Adobe doesn't consider AE to be an editing program, whcih is why they have Premiere. As for the learning curve, I avoided AE for years because I didn't want to devote my life to it. However, I found that if you watch some tutorials, or read a book, you can pick up AE basics very quickly. |

Doug, After Effects is a standalone app. Many people use both AE and Vegas. If you look at Boris Red, it is very similar to After Effects in many ways and CAN work as a plugin in Vegas. However, there are some limitations to how it works as a plugin and many use it as a standalone instead.
