Lcd tv

I know this is a general question but anyway: Is an avarage lct tv able to display full rgb 0-255 color range, if i connect it to notebook over vga or hdmi? Am i limited to 16-235 range of tv or there is a switch to rgb? How about monitors with tv tuner, do they display tv program in rgb range or 16-235 range. I know on my popcorn unit is manual setting that enables me to switch. If i watch fotos over usb interface on lcd tv, is the range rgb, or 16-235?
How do you solve this diferences?( also gamma differences)
