Black bars & crashing
In Vegas 8 I have had several crashes with a new project just trying to capture. One crash was so severe that the PC shut itself down completely. Once before, it crashed after capturing for just 10 minutes, but now I notice there are black bars running along the lower edge of the timeline & trimmer windows. I am capturing an HDV file which is down-converting in the camera (Sony A1P), to DV. I have done this before with out any problems.
Further, I just tried to capture one minute of a logged clip & it started the Camera OK but within a few seconds the capture froze & the tape just kept running. Cont/Alt/Delete did nothing so I had to do a forced turn off again. This is most puzzling as I have had little trouble with V8 before. I am capturing to a separate, almost empty, video drive & the PC is a P4 2.1 g with 2g Ram, Win XP. and the black bars are new to me. Any suggestions, - thanks. RonC. |

While you say you've done this before, I'm thinking your P4 may be a tad long in the tooth. You might find a workaround, and I hope you do. But short of that, it might be time for a new machine.
