wmv render: fine in V7, bad in V9?

I've been trying Vegas 9 out and am having some problems. I've been having some stability issues, this is on an older AMD X2 machine, but the show stopper is this weird rendering issue.

It's HDV 720 - 24p file captured from a JVC BR-HD50 deck. Capture worked fine and all the files are fine. Sometimes the clips playback in Vegas kind of stuttery, not 24p stuttery but bad web video stuttery. The video preview is showing 24p as framerate and it doesn't seem to matter what my preview is set at. I figure it's just a system/ Vegas 9 thing but when I rendered out a test clip it has the same funny motion stutter.

Opened the same clip in Vegas 7 and rendered out a test clip and it looks fine. The only difference I can think of (all settings are the same in both projects) is that Vegas 9 renders as wmv 11 and Vegas 7 renders as wmv 9.

Thanks a bunch for any insight, help or info
