Red Screen in Preview

Why do video files in a project appear red? It implies that files aren't there. Yet when I edited it, they were all there..now trying to just pick up where I left off and everything is red..very strange..

This has happened to me too. I'm on the 32bit v9 and have seen this many times. I have to exit out and restart the software for the preview window to come back. Just one of the few weird issues I'm having with v9.

can i render to an avi than render to mpg or will that lose quality?

Go ahead and try it on a short segment.
My guess is that you won't see much of a difference.
Make sure to render in Best mode as this will keep the quality up as high as possible.

Re: Red Screen in Preview

This just happened to me as well on my new system. No idea how to fix it dispite looking up many other posts elsewhere online.

My problem stats:
1) I can see certain vids in the time line - others are red
2) All vids play red in the preview
3) Or the vids flash red on and off while showing the clip
4) Vegas won't save or render the file

Any help would be MUCH appeciated!

Re: Red Screen in Preview

My impression is that the red screen is an indication of a memory problem. I've had it happen just once on me, on a fairly complex project. I exited the program and restarted it and haven't seen the problem since.

Re: Red Screen in Preview

It did just give me a message about Memory prompting me to close other programs but it was my knowledge that my system had enough memory to take some editing on Vegas.

Hummm...
