Event pan/crop in 8.1 at DVinfo.net

I am having some more issues in 8.1. Or I am just not seeing a preset. Anyway using XP64 and when I try to adjust the crop, my 1440x1080 video is displaying as 4:3. All the preferences in the pan/crop window seem to be correct or just like the preferences in 8.0c. There does seem to be a speed increase in rendering... at least 15 percent if not more, which is probably the only reason I am messing with this.... and the possibility of upgrading my ram to 4 gb. Any ideas?
