locking audio and video together

I haven't done any editing for a while, and now I'm doing some, I've hit an issue I can't find the solution to. For some reason the video and audio are not natively (to coin a term) locked together, as they normally have been for other edits. I can lock them together by grouping them, but as soon as you cut them, it seems to dissolve the group.

How can I lock the two together so they are natively joined?

Make sure you haven't accidentally disabled the "Ignore Event Grouping" icon on the toolbar.

The grouping of the events should stay even after being cut. definitely make sure that the ignore event grouping isn't selected.

Thanks guys. It was funny one. I know that it is normal for the video and audio of a clip to be locked 'natively', but for some reason on that particular vege file they weren't - and I never did work out why. I just carried on and made other files from the material, and these other files worked as normal.
