Compression
The Pure Digital Flip Ultra (Specs, Recent News, $149.99) camcorder records video in the MPEG-4 format (Advanced Simple Profile) and outputs them as AVI files. This is the same file format you see on most cheap camcorders and digital still cameras that offer video functionality

Also, what version of Vegas?

If Vegas won't import them, you may need to use some other program to convert them into something Vegas CAN load. Or find the proper codec for Vegas to use. GSpot may give you more info about the actual codec used.

It's possible that a newer version of Vegas might handle it. However, without knowing the exact codec, it's hard to say. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a DivX/XVid style file. Test it out with GSpot to find out for sure.
