Capturing HV20 through Vegas - 4:3 instead of 16:9?
I have a really strange occurrence. I am not sure if it is the HV20 or Vegas.
I shot a wedding, with two HV20's. Same settings, everything the same. When I go to capture the wedding, 5 out of 8 tapes are 4:3 and the others 16:9. It makes no sense to me. All captured the same way. All recorded the same way. So here is what I discovered. At the very beginning of the tapes (maxell, brand new), it jumps from 4:3 to 16:9 in the capture preview window. If I capture from the very beginning of these certain tapes, it stays 4:3 even though the preview shows clearly 16:9 (after the jump). So as a work around, I have to capture about 2 seconds in so that the preview capture window stays on 16:9 (without the jump from 4:3). Weird or what? Is this Vegas or an HV20 issue? Anyone else had this? Do you think these might be refurbished maxell tapes that have been blanked by maxell? |

You fail to mention how you shot the video itself. Was it HDV or SD DV.
If it was HDV, doesn't make sense as specs call for 16:9 period. Second, if you are capturing HDV, are you down rezzing out of the Camera ? These are key factors in trying to diagnose what is happening.

Sorry Chris,
It was shot HDV. We are down resizing to DV (I have DV locked on the camera for capture). Again, the main issue is that some tapes are doing the 4:3 thing and others are not. They are all from the same day, same package of tapes and same 2 cameras. |
