Changing track when using trim keys on numeric keypad?

How can I change the track I'm working on when using the trim keys on the numeric keypad? The normal keyboard methods to select a different track don't seem to work.

Keyboard shortcuts that I'm using to select a different track:
1. TAB key - which toggles between track list & timeline. Then up/down arrows to select track.
2. Shift+Alt+up/down arrows - to switch focus to next/previous track.

[EDIT] - basically I'd like to move to an event on another track to continue editing
