GearShift Adjusting Color Space in Vegas 8b
I just started testing out GearShift and it is fantastic but have noticed something strange. I set GearShift to create my proxies overnight on my 2nd machine with Vegas 7b. Files are as they should be. Did some more conversions this morning on my other machine with Vegas 8b and have noticed that the color space is being adjusted by GearShift in Vegas 8b, whereas they are not on my 2nd machine with Vegas 7.
In Vegas 8, when I toggle the FX bypass button, the "haze" is there when FX are enabled. When I disable the FX, then the haze is gone. I then add the Secondary color correction, Studio RGB to Computer RGB and toggle between the 2 and they are a close match but both the DV Proxie and HDV Intermediary look slightly more vivid when the FXs are bypassed as opposed to having the Secondary setting on. What is going on? I triple checked this with 3 different fresh projects and all have the same issues. Vegas 7b GearShift Files = no color space adjustment = "Hazy Footage" with FX bypassed on or off. Vegas 8b GearShift Files = color space adjustment = "Hazy Footage" when the FX are on, and correct color space with the FX off. Also, what is the difference between "HDV 1080-24p Intermediate" and "HDV 1080-24p Intermediate (GearShift)"? Many thanks. |

Hi Kevin,
You have uncovered a very interesting defect in GearShift. It was adding the color space adjustment as a post process in Vegas 6, 7 and 8. The reason you saw it was because it is only applied to the media and is not permanent. So the files you had just converted had it applied in the project, while the ones from your Vegas 7 machine did not have it on the filesystem. If you were to press NEW in Vegas Pro 8 and start a new project and drag all of the proxies into your project you would not see the color adjustment anymore (try it and see). No need to re-render. It was a temporary glitch. At any rate, GearShift should not have been doing this so I have corrected the problem and posted a new version of GearShift 1.7.3 on the VASST web site. Please download this new version and install it over what you have now. No color space correction will be applied at any time in Vegas 6, 7 & 8 (it is only needed for Vegas 5). Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. ~jr

Thanks for such a quick response John! I believe I'll be purchasing a license. You guys should really do more to get the word out about this product, I was close to spending $3k on a new machine bc of HDV performance with M2T and Cineform but just happen to come across your product per a Dvinfo member's post. Possibly advertise in the DVinfo Vegas section? My current setup (Core2Duo 2Ghz HP Laptop) should suffice for a little longer. Great stuff!
Also, can you tell me what's the difference between "HDV 1080-24p Intermediate" and "HDV 1080-24p Intermediate (GearShift)"? |
