HDV preview device not present

I am trying to edit HDV project using Sony HC1 camcorder connected to Vegas 8 Pro via Fire Wire. I can print to tape in HDV (so Vegas recognized HC-1 camcorder) but the camera is not recognized as a Preview Device!!! Why?How can I preview HDV footage during editing using Fire Wire cable? Any other suggestions re: previewing ( I have Nvidia 8800 GTS card but S-Video image looks bad). Any suggestions...

You can't pass HDV through the camera like you can with DV.You must use either DVI or SVGA, or an HD card such as a Xena
