Upgrade to 8 worth it for SD?

I can get the upgrade for $100 (as can anyone with any student or teacher in the household, preschool through college) at academicsuperstore.com until Nov 30. I'm tempted to grab it just because of the deal.

But I've had multicam for years with Ed Troxel's great Excalibur add on, with 5.0 and now 7.0. Does 8.0 offer anything significant for someone not going to HD anytime soon? Thanks.

The Pro Type Titler is new, a couple of new themes in DVD Architect, that is it, I beleive. Go Sony's website and look at the list of new features. Read the threads in this forum regarding bugs with Vegas 8 before you make the leap.

I personally do not like the new Titler and therefore I felt I made a poor choice to not wait for 9.

If 7 runs fine, you might think long and hard before upgrading....the Titler causes Vegas to freeze for me, and does cause problems for some others...

There is the new multicam feature, but I feel it is very weak, and haven't heard much talk about it...I use Ultimate S, which works fine for me.

For a limited amount of money you can upgrade to the current version and stay up to date. Maybe version 9, when it is released, has features that appeal more to your needs.

Some things you get with version 8:
- multicam editting
- 32 bit floating point processing (but keep in mind you need a rather fast PC)
- for example editting for portrait size narrowcast screens (digital signage)
- ProType titler
- support for even more/other formats
- under the hood performance improvements

Regards,
Erwin
