Vegas Help

I'm new to video editing, i have Vegas 8 and i know how to use it a bit, but when it comes to saving an HD movie the files Come out HUGE! i want a 3 minute video to be like maybe 300meg of high quality, instead i get a 6 to 7 gig video... can someone help a brother out?

5 minutes of HDV should use about 1GB, maybe you're rendering to an uncompressed format.
