Using HDV and SD footage to produce SD DVD.

I try to use HDV footage from Canon HV20 and SD footage from Sony 2100 in SD timeline to produce SD video and I have problems with final rendered product - it shows well on computer screen but when played on TV, HDV footage is strobelike. When captured - by default SD footage is Lower Field First while HDV is Upper Filed First so when combined in SD timeline (Lower First) it will not work. I don't want to downconvert the Canon file because it looks bad (blury) compared to original HDV imported to timeline (pan/crop right click "Match Output Aspect" - (thanx Edward). Could you please share your experience with mixed format editing/settings.
