vimeo facebook embed
I have been using vimeo pro for a year but switched back to plus as I didn't see the benefit of the extra's you get with this account, only now I have a client that is unable to embed and play her weddingvideo on facebook. I have selected that the video should not show on vimeo, like I always have done, and placing the vimeo embed code on facebook has always worked, only now she gets the message the video is private. If I change the privacy option to "anyone" who can watch the video, the embed code still gives a private video warning. Only when she places the direct link it works but that leads to my vimeo page which I don't want.
Could it be that this is a plus limitation and that you need vimeo pro to fully embed and play on facebook? |

Re: vimeo facebook embed
Did you attempt to embed when it was private? And then try again? If so, it's possible Facebook has just stored a cache of the private embed attempt. This has happened me when changing titles and thumbnails.
I've had to use the facebook debugger to ensure facebook allows the embed with the refreshed changes to the video. Put the URL of the video in here - https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/ Then hit debug and then 'fetch new scrape information', and then try the embed again. P.S. sorry if my terminology and phrasing is off - I'm no expert! |

Noa it's probably similar to this threads issue: http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/wedding-...eo-glitch.html
Did she re-paste the code, or is it simply the same post of hers on her timeline? Either way it should adjust but you may need to run the URL thru the scrape as new feature. |

Re: vimeo facebook embed
The client contacted me again saying it now did work with just using the direct link to the video on my vimeo page, the video plays directly on her facebook page. I was already afraid I had to go back to a pro account :)

Re: vimeo facebook embed
On a related note, I just discovered this week that Vimeo no longer allows you (Pro or Plus members) to select the option to have your videos default to HD. This is a major bummer for me as I don't expect my viewers to know how to, or want to have to select a quality setting before they watch my clips. For many viewers it will default to 360P which looks like total crap. Below is the official response from Vimeo support.
Hi there, It is no longer possible to default videos to HD on a viewer’s behalf. However, there are two important pieces of information you should keep in mind: 1. Once a viewer selects an HD option in the new quality menu, this option will remain selected for all future videos they view. 2. We are preparing to move toward a system where video quality is selected adaptively for all users. This means that if a viewer’s playback environment is able to handle HD video, they will receive that automatically. These changes should be completely rolled out in the coming months. I apologize for any inconvenience. If you have any additional questions, please let me know! Sincerely, Andy G. |

Re: vimeo facebook embed
That doesn't look good, the player automatically sets the right quality during playback depending on what platform it's being played but that could mean the first few seconds your video will look like crap before it readjusts. Going to keep a close eye on that when they implement this change.

Re: vimeo facebook embed
For the moment, it seems I still can. At least by clicking on Settings > Embed then at the bottom it says "Miscellaneous - Default video to HD" however after that it says ' This setting will be retired soon. Learn more about adaptive streaming and how it will impact your videos.'

Thanks for that update Dave - I see that the setting is back, for now.
