Little mics that plug straight into jack (No wire)
Any ideas? Google and I are having difficulty with finding suitable search terms!
Basically, I've been taping my recorder to venue mics for some time. I'm now trying to neaten it all up. Step one is this - Theres a very neat and compact 'sock' for my recorder - The plan is to sew two strips of black elastic onto it so it just slides snuggly onto the mic - no more tape. Second problem is - I have been using a lapel mic with the wire wound up and taped down too. So, I got to thinking - surely theres a product for this - a lapel mic that basically just plugs straight into a jack with any wire. This is about all i could find, but not convinced on the quality... Sure at that price, I may as well buy and try. Hi Clive
Sony make a stereo mic that is used for voice recorders .. no wires, just a jack coming out of the middle with the L and R mics either side. Cheap but good quality ..at least it's a brand name mic Sony ECM-DS70P Portable Stereo Condenser Microphone ECM-DS70P Sure that you will find one in the UK?? Chris |

I just saw this in another forum. I haven't used it but it fits the bill of "small" that you are looking for.

Re: Little mics that plug straight into jack (No wire)
Thanks guys, I new something like these existed, but just couldn't negotioate with google to find them!
A few things making me unsure of the Sony ECM-DS70P and the Olympus ME-51S: - the positioning of the mics the left and right sides effectively point outwards. Perpendicular to the venue mic and recorder. I wonder if this will capture more environment noise along with the speaker? - they are also slightly bigger than I imagined and metallic in colour. This sort of goes against my aim to make the setup less ugly and distracting. The one I have linked to is actually ideal in terms of size and discreetness - but likely low quality! I've ordered one anyway and will report back! |

Just bought this one...

Re: Little mics that plug straight into jack (No wire)
Can anyone explain why these are preferable over an audio recorder with built in stereo mics?
Is it purely a matter of size? |

Re: Little mics that plug straight into jack (No wire)
Yep, size exactly Craig.
My recorder is 100x34x14mm. Compared with 136x44x31mm for the Zoom H1. Also - my recorder does have in built mics, but I feel that for close proximity to a persons mouth, a lapel type mic will yield better results. |
