Fastest way to fix volume spikes in FCP
What is the easiest and quickest way to fix volume spikes that go into the red in FCP? This is for long speech's or such where the overall volume is fine, but the volume spikes anytime the person say a letter that 'pops' or gets loud for a second. Everything I do seems to take time and when its happening every 15 seconds its a pain. Any shortcut keys or something that you use to do this quick?

Try using a compressor (no, not Apple compressor ;)) It should bring the loud bits back down if you set the threshold right. It will take a little playing with but once it's set you can apply it to the entire track.
You can also add a limiter too.

Thanks Dave. That took care of alot of the small peaks. I found out if you go to Mark>Audio Peak>Mark it will show you everywhere the audio peaks. So using that definitely help's too.

There is an app called The Levelator which you can run your audio through that does an amazing job at levelling audio to the same level, best part is it's free.
The Levelator from The Conversations Network |
