audio from DJ Issue/problem

So I normally tape into the DJ's mixer with my H2 recorder (with their permission of course). This particular DJ didn't have any outputs free on his mixer. He said that most videogs plug into the output of his left speaker with an XLR...

So after sending my asst out to buy the proper cables from XLR to mini jack, we had audio.

Here's the unusual part, in FCP when I pan the audio to 0 to be centered between left and right... there's nothing there. It will only play the audio when it's full right or left. No biggie right, I duplicated the audio clip and paned one for left, the other right....

When I play my video, It still doesn't sound like it's balanced. I just checked out a trailer from the wedding that I created on my Iphone. All the audio is perfect except for the BM speech, it's not even present. I guess this something to do with the Iphone speakers system..

Either-way, I'm concerned that I can not seem to balance the audio. Any ideas?
