DVDs_ assets and space
hello all.
I'm trying to find a more effective way of doing this and I wanted to know if somebody has a better solution. OK...my DVD will have... A: Love story B: Civil C: catholic I want them to play together but also to play individually... option#1 track#1: A,B,C.....play by Button#1 track#2: A..........play by Button#2 track#3: B..........play by Button#3 track#4: C.........play by Button#4 this will be my prefered option if it wasn't because as you place assets in a new track it duplicates the size it takes on the DVD.....(wouldn't be nice if it didn't) and I rather have more space for best quality assets.. option#2 Track#1: A,B,C (make a chapter for each section) button#1 play track #1 button#2 play chapter 1 button#3 play chapter 2 button#4 play chapter 3 the problem with this option is that as a play chapter the movie keeps playing to the next chapter ...but if i set a go to menu at the end of chapters then when i want to play the entire track it will go back to menu at the end of each chapter. is this something that troubles anyone else? is so...do you have ideas or workaround for a better option? thank you all. osmani

What are you using to author the DVD. By adding a Play All button and track buttons it usually does not double the assets on the DVD. I use AVID DVD and do this all the time without issues. Also like the TMPEGENC DVD Author that works great as well.
Just have your buttons point at the existing movies rather than adding the assets each time you refer to them. Good luck. |

Chris, sorry..forgot to mention..
working on DVDSP yes, when i use an asset in a new track it does double space it takes on DVD maybe is differnt in AVID DVD..but in DVDSP you import assets into project and have to place them in tracks to use them... Peter...I don't belive you can link a button to more than one track (DVDSP) i wish it was possible... arkkkk....is there any solution to this problem? help please.

DUDE.
There HAS to be a way... Either you're not seing it, or it's time to change authouring software.. If you click the "Button", then it's properties should be shown. There should be an option to have the properties of the button override the timeline playback.... Overriding is a button feature, and not a timeline feature... |

i checked the propety options for the button and don't see any way to override anything....even looked in track properties and not way i see option for this..
is DVDSP that bad? button properties..besides color and stuff i get: _Navigations _Streams _Funtions....auto action or invisible _coordinates and Size nothing else... should i give up? i don't know if writing a script will do the job...but i never played with scripting before... thanks again.

This task is also easily accomplished in Adobe Encore by using a Playlist.
Each video would be placed on a separate timeline, and could be linked to individually by buttons 2, 3, and 4. You then create a playlist, and add all of your timelines to it, then link button 1 to the playlist. You can then set an end action for the playlist, just as you would with a timeline. |
