In Praise of

the IDX LC-7S multi charger. This thing is great. Simultaneously charges 4 of my Sony NP-970's quickly and fully which is more than I can say for the cameras they came with. It seems fairly well built and the charge readouts above each battery are clear to understand unlike many of those darn blinking or multi colored charge indicators. I'm not sure if they make one for Canon or Panny or not but it's brilliant and perfect for charging of multiple batteries if you've got back to back days of shooting. It's not a hour long quick charger but as best I can tell it fully (and I mean fully) charges a dead 970 in about 3 hours.

Best part (other than the fact that it just works well) is the price. Got mine from B&H for $75.

that's it, but it's way more than what I paid for it. The listed US price of $305 is about $230 too much. Might want to keep looking.

$74 from B+H. Wow, us brits sure like to over charge.
total of £75 including shipping at a whooping $50

Plus £15 import and some tax. You can still get it for under £100 imported. a nice saving of £80.

The IDX LC-7 model chargers were discontined about a year ago. B&H is probably selling off their stock.

Alex,
I'd assume being who you are that you're a fairly reliable industry source, do you have any clue why they never made one of these for Canon or Panny batteries? Seems like a decent product to me.

I know they're a competitor and your opinion might be slightly biased, but I was just curious.

BTW, thanks for the lowdown on why they're going so cheap now.

Ethan, they actually made the Panasonic version, not sure of Canon. For us Panasonic is more popular than the Sony. So I assume that B&H sold out the Panasonic version quicker for the same reason. Why they stopped making them I do not know... business decision.

Oh and Alex, just wanted you to know, I bought some 970 knock offs from you guys about a year ago on the cheap (I think they were used or something) and they're still going strong.
