Hot DVDs

I have 2 systems and i'm every time I burn multiple dvds the disc get pretty freak'n hot! On the quad core sys. the first couple burn pretty fast but after that they take too long and the disc is getting pretty hot. Usually after about the 4th one it will fail. On my dual core it takes forever to burn a disc even though it shows writing at 16x and by the time it's done I could cook an egg on it. Any ideas on a fix for these systems? Could it need a firm ware update? Could it be Nero causing it?
