You've touched on a couple points already but here is what I saw....
Audio: Invest in good equipment, the sound quality is as important as your image quality. If you can, plug your line right into the main mixer of the hall (not always possible but will usually get you the best results for the speeches). If you have great audio then you don't have to blast the music tracks to cover up static and other noises picked up by your audio device.
Glidecam: Learn how to move with this as smoothly as you can....slow down a bit :)
CC: Try to match the scenes together as best as you can.... the scenes with the speeches really stood out to me as being out of place (colour wise). Adjust your camera settings/play around with the different cc tools in your NLE.
