Effects are very much a matter of taste, but I tend to believe that less is better. What looks 'new' or 'hot' today will probably be laughed at 5 years from now. Sticking with the cuts and dissolves or fades will always have a timeless appeal (especially if used appropriately). Your audio transitions could use some smoothing...they are quite abrupt. I also see image shifts when you go to still frames. I tend to leave the stills to the photographer unless everyone is looking right at my camera (which I don't get too often). You're better off asking for the still photos to incorporate into the video (if that is what you like to do). I say you're a moving-image professional....let the image move!
Finally, the background music was making me sleepy and it's getting late. So I'll shut up now and let others chime in.
