Using LCD monitors in less than full resolution
Hi, quick question I'll bet you folks would know the answer to.
I'd like LCD monitors for doing digital editing; the sharpness, low energy use and not frying myself with whatever radiation comes out of my old bulky multiple CRT monitors. However, I have an eye problem which means I have to be about 3-4 feet back from the monitors. The solution to this is running large monitors at relatively coarse resolutions, such as a 20" at 800x600. As I say, I like LCD's, but the ones I've seen do a really bad job of displaying at anything less than the 'native' resolution.... while CRT's seem to do it well. Are there LCD's out there with a lower native resolution? For instance, I wondered about using an LCD TV with a monitor input... thoughts? thanks! |

If a crt does the job then just stick with it. The energy consumption difference isn't going to break the bank and the only radiation you should fear, if at all, stays within a few inches of the screen. So if 1) lcd won't do the job 2) energy is a non-issue 3) radiation is also a non-issue, stay with CRTs.
