Astro Systems field monitors
I am looking for a good field monitor for use with my Canon XL-H1. I am looking at Nebtek, Marshall, Panasonic, Astro Systems and the LS Design homebrew monitor (http://www.lsdsgn.com/). The last one is affordable and looks very nice but it is custom build and comes with no warranty. Which is a big risk, so I guess that one is not an option.
I hear great things about the Panasonic's but they are pretty expensive but they do come with a Waveform monitor which is neat. Anyway, there is a company called Astro Systems (http://www.astro-systems.com/). They make professional video equipment and I heard good things about their monitors. Has anyone used/worked with one of these? Do you own one? They seem to have the right price and featureset, and above all, they have a 1,024x768 resolution (4:3 models). They also have this nice HUD screen overlay. The full range: http://www.astro-systems.com/hd_broa...duct_page.html I am looking at this particular model: http://www.astro-systems.com/DM-3009...009_page1.html The 16:9 models are more expensive and are on par with the Panasonic models, which have a Waveform monitor so I guess they are a better option. Seems like a good alternative to the Marshall. If you read carefully, you don't read many positive things about them (blown out highlights, bad build quality) but they are well priced and used by many people. Any thoughts on this? |
