True Story!
i was having dinner tonight with a 20 year old university of colorado student. she is an art student but knows a lot of young videoheads, so i was telling her to drag her friends to a local screening of UWOL films at the Boulder Adventure Film Festival this weekend. she asked me what i was showing, so i mentioned Mat Thompson's film, "The Fisher King" and as i was describing it, she said, "i've seen it."
me: Huh? her: I've seen it. Luis (a local professor who teaches some video in the art department) showed it to us. then my young friend proceeded to describe mat's video perfectly to me. and she did not even know i was developing the Challenge. apparently, the professor downloads short videos from the internet to screen for his students, and Mat's was among them. what are the chances???? what an odd conversation. from the UK to my living room to a university of colorado classroom. it was one of those weird synchronous moments in time. i love the UWOL Challenge. it just inspires me, to be part of a global community that is making a mark that we won't even necessarily be able to measure..... |
