good morning signer-uppers.
i'm finally getting myself back together. got some amazing footage. amazing! geir, i'd hang onto that wet suit. maybe not for this month, but the warmer weather is approaching fast. and that's all i'm saying! re: mike's suggestion.... the number one reason that i decided to develop the UWOL Challenge was to build a stronger community among nature and outdoors shooters. i would even go so far as to say that is my sole reason for inventing it. the sign-up process is part of the getting-to-know-you. it's the small talk that precedes the Big Dance (when we post feedback threads and choose a winner). if the goal was to produce footage, i'd be on board with the "anyone plays" mentality. but that goal is sort of secondary--those who produce and post footage at DVinfo will continue to do so, with or without the UWOL Challenge. but with the UWOL Challenge, they get to make new friends while they're at it. i think the UWOL feedback is visibly better than what you get if you're just posting footage at DVinfo, because it is coming from people who have tried the same theme you have, from people who have been working alongside you for 3 weeks, engaged in similar struggles. sign-ups give new players a chance to see who is out there, to become familiar with other players, and to feel involved, not just like some free range chicken poking around in the dirt alone. once you sign up (and complete your project, ahem!), you're instantly part of a very unique--and did i mention supportive?-- community. there is nothing available like it anywhere else on (or off) the web...except for the DV Challenge on which it was modeled (props to Dylan for the inspiration). not to get off-topic--this is the sign-up thread and it's for signing up, not feeding back. but since it seems to be a persistent conversation, i thought i'd throw in my bit... PS--Don't forget to shoot me an e-mail at the new address below, if you haven't already! (Even previous players need to do it, this round only....) uwol@comcast.net |

Newbie Sign-up
Hi all,
Been watching this initiative with interest for a while now and thought I would take the plunge and have a go. I shoot on an FX1, have a love of nature instilled from a very young age by my parents, and love the outdoors and extreme sports ( filming AND participating ). Hopefully i'll be able to cobble something together to match the excellent quality of productions you all have put together over the last two rounds! Cheers! Rob :email sent to signup addy: |

I have been doing it the last two times. All I have is a (very nice) $300 camera, and a tripod. Then for editing I delete stuff off my hard-drive and use Imovie or download a trial for another editing program. I think it works out just fine... Others may disagree, but its working for me! Best of luck to you all! And oh yeah, I don't drive! ~Gabriel

Well, no time, but no penalty either, so I try again!
