UWOL 55 PART 2 - Tales of wonders and woes
As always, interaction between the players is encouraged.
The good, the bad, the ugly... What goes great, what did not go as planned, and everything in between, about the making of your UWOL55 -part 2 films. Don't be afraid to ask if you have any questions. And pay special attention to rule 11: Have fun! |

Re: UWOL 55 PART 2 - Tales of wonders and woes
As this round started I got the call for my shoulder surgery, Been waiting sense November, glad to have it done. It truly has put a game changer on my filming. I got a new Elderbrock back pack that can carry all my camera gear and has a sheath for my Vinton on steel gitzo legs. So going exploring as planned is out of the question. Just the camera rig is 22 pounds, then all the other stuff and tripod makes it about a 50 lb. load. Can't carry that on my shoulder for some time, start therapy in a week.
I came up with a new plan of attack. Of course we have had typical prairie winds to battle and they have been pretty unrelenting. I do have about 45 seconds of decent footage. Glad there is a month more! BOY AM I OUT OF PRACTICE. Hope everyone is having fun!

That's a massive setup, Dale! Good to hear the surgery is done.
No filming here yet, but I guess the young one has some ideas for her entry. |

Still working on an idea.
Was hoping to be cleared from my surgery but looks like another month. Really want to incorporate Neowise in the film somehow. |

Was out exploring a new place together with Irmelinn yesterday. Hopefully she can use some of the footage for her entry. Prehistoric idea.

Re: UWOL 55 PART 2 - Tales of wonders and woes
Glad your shoulder is on the mend, Dale.
We spent 4 1/2 month under quarantine here before it was lifted in most of the country, but a lot of places have still been closed off. (Most small villages here have closed off access to themselves. One small community has closed off visitor access by train to Machu Picchu -- which still remains closed anyway -- using machetes to stop supply trains and search them for outsiders!) There is a possibility that we will go back into quarantine soon, but it's all unclear what will happen right now. We should know more in the coming days. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a little more opening up. I'd been planning to get back into the jungle around Machu Picchu and do some real exploring for some Inca sites that possibly haven't been seen in a few hundred years. I was also hoping to film some, but I don't know if that opportunity is going to come before the end of the current UWOL Challenge.

That's a very long time under quarantine, Phil! Hope you and your family are all well.
Fingers crossed for the situation will improve in your area too. You have a fantastic location to explore. |

Re: UWOL 55 PART 2 - Tales of wonders and woes
Thanks, Trond. Doing fine here except for the LONG lockdown. I hope you and your family are all doing well, too.
Exploring really is my occupation now. One good thing about the quarantine is that is allowed me a LOT of time to do academic research. There has been a rumor of one more "lost" city in the mountains and I've managed to uncover a few clues about where it might possibly be in an area including a big clue from one person who claims to know where it is. (He's the world's leading authority on the area, but is a little eccentric at times.) I've been dying to get back to the jungle since I discovered the place that he says is near the ruins. Of course, I'll probably only find nothing more than snakes and a few small ruins, but all the puzzle pieces seem to point to one place that hasn't been explored before. If I could find something, it would sure be a pretty cool video under the topic!

Would be awesome if you find that ancient city! Watch out for the snakes :)

Right, the talent ,well mammals in this case, footage now in the can
Script partly written. To do, more establishing and link clips and some time lapse. No doubt over the next couple of weeks something else will appear in the my viewfinder and a total rehash will happen. Hope you are all managing to get some footage for an entry. |

Hope you all are safe and healthy, and that the covid19 situation lets you go out and make your films.

How is everyone doing? Been quiet in here.
Regarding Covid-19: More and more countries report increasing trends and number of infected. I'd like to hear how it is in your countries. More specifically, if you are able to go out and do some filming. If needed, we can extend deadline, but I'd like to get some inputs first. |

Re: UWOL 55 PART 2 - Tales of wonders and woes
Hi Trond,
Think the virus is on the march again all over the world at the moment. Although I am lucky and now have most of my footage, I'm sure there are others who are struggling. In the interest of fairness to those who may still have to get footage and who could be stopped at the last minute because of lockdowns, I would respectfully suggest that this round is suspended on the proviso that those who have already have footage specially for this round can use it when we are back up and running. Maybe have two themes for the next challenge the one for this round and another? Those entering can then decide which theme to follow. Stay safe all Mick |

Re: UWOL 55 PART 2 - Tales of wonders and woes
Thanks for the comment, Mick.
Maybe the next challenge could be a "free theme," just to get things going again. Been a while since we have done that. Yes, if this #55-2 challenge also ends up being suspended, it is a good idea to allow footage shot for this one, to be used in the next round. |

Re: UWOL 55 PART 2 - Tales of wonders and woes
Trond, I think that is an excellent idea. I went out last week to film and every place I went was either closed of severely restricted. Kevin and Dale, hope you to are mending. Take care and stay safe. Bob
