UWOL#50 "The Sound of Color" by Geir Inge B. Brekke
The footage of the birds is done in my backyard, where I have a bird feeder.
The trip on snowshoes is done in the mountains near my home. Sitting out in the open, eating my food and drinking hot cocoa, is good for my soul and great meditation. I can really recommend it. Just sitting there, doing nothing at all. Thinking about all the nice and colourful birds that visit my backyard and get their lunch served. The weather has been changing, up to several times a day and has bein a challenge. It's been all fun and I decided early in the process of just filming freely and editing it to a uwol video. Feel free to give your comments. |

Geir Inge I liked your film. The fact that you identified your birds is nice. The only thing I felt was your bird audio was a little to dominating compared to the rest of the audio. Still nice to watch.

I cannot properly evaluate this entry until I assemble our cats around our television and get their input!

nicely tied together - started & ended with you and you were thinking about the birds. I think your accent is made for nature videos!
There was an echo in the initial VO, I'm not sure if that was intentional. some really great shot of birds and lots of variety |

Hi Geir Inge,
A nice, good quality film! You are absolutely right. Having lunch and hot chocolate out in the wild, is a winner! I liked the initial wide drone shot, so we could get an overview of the area. Parts of the birds sound was a bit loud, compared to the VO and other sound. I also heard the hollow/ echo sound in the initial VO, Paul Mailath mentioned. The shot at 2:32 is a little over exposed. Well done! |

Hi Geir,
Thought the way you combined the sitting back in the mountains, reflecting and watching, thinking about a similar thing you do in your garden was great. Maybe a couple more views of what you were looking at in the mountains, coupled with a clip of you sitting at home with a cup of something ,watching the birds through your window would give a nice link. As already commented the sound track needed to be equalized as there was a lot of clipping. Well done, enjoyed watching Mick |

Wow! This was not what I expected! I loved so many of the shots. I thought a few were a bit long, but so many were absolutely wonderful. The slow motion added a really nice perspective. I went back and watched several of the clips again just because thy were so enjoyable in slo mo.
I thought the opening was also a very nice touch that added to your work, though I wasn't sure how the closing shot was intended to fit. I turned my laptop around so my cat, Michi, could watch while he lay on my desk. At first he was disinterested, but he became more and more interested to the point of getting up and walking in front of the screen to see better. You definitely received his recommendation! |

Ahh, the sound of a Geir Inge voiceover!
I very much enjoyed the use of the theme, and although the voiceover was a bit echoing (I’m sure you know that) it didn’t detract from the overall video. I think the birdsong could have been “ smoothed a bit” between shots, but the sound levels accented the subject in shot, and overall worked well.. Thanks for another visit to Norway! |

Geir, well done. Very interesting the way you started and ended the video with you going to the mountains for a little meditation. The variety of birds was fantastic. And, you identified them all. I think birds are one of the hardest animals to video because they are so fast. You really have to watch them and see where they like to hangout. I think it is easier to video an elephant than a bird. Again thank you for taking the time to identify each species. Maybe it is my speakers, but I had no problem with the volume of the bird sounds. Good use of slow motion. Overall, a nice relating video. Thank you. Bob
