Re: UWOL 50 - Tales of wonders and woes

Good luck to you, too, this week, Bob. Hope you get some good enough weather to shoot what you want to shoot.

I was lucky to get a short break in the weather for a day and a half to get enough to fit what I'm trying to put together. The funny part is that I've been looking for some bad weather for a week during what is the end of the wettest part of the year here and it's been quite nice. Climate change is really screwing with my work! haha

Re: UWOL 50 - Tales of wonders and woes

I've run out of time again but rather than shelve the project I went to a native Australian garden and shot some footage this afternoon. hopefully, I can make something out of it.

You really showed us this, Bob! :)
Still almost a week to go, so plenty time for us to go out in the crappy weather.

Re: UWOL 50 - Tales of wonders and woes

Right! I think I am getting there.

February here on the south coast in the UK started with strong winds and rains and then morphed in the hottest sunniest February on record.

So my entry has also morphed into quite a strange set of sequences. Rather than start a new project as the weather conditions changed I have tried to weave the previously recorded footage this month into my entry as the weather pattern changed. Not sure I have completely succeeded? But still time for a few more tweak's

Re: UWOL 50 - Tales of wonders and woes

In the Shark tank again... I think I'll change the rules next time for myself. No Planing - Just grab the camera and spend just one day about 15 hours of filming should do it.

One 5 minute film = 300 seconds
Average short shot length is about 4 seconds, 300/4= 75 shots
Average long shot length is about 9 seconds, 300/9= 33.3 (Say 34 shots)

15 hours * 60 minutes = 900 minutes

900 minutes / 75 shots = 12 minutes to shoot each shot.

Hmm - Should sleep well after that. Does anyone else have any crazy ideas?

Re: UWOL 50 - Tales of wonders and woes

Good news, Mark! You only need up to 12 hours, for an up to 4 minutes film.
Now you can sleep even better after finishing. ;)

Done some editing today. Should have had more shots, but I'm getting there.
Been many years since last time I didn't know the theme before it was released.
But of course, my entry will, as always, be unofficial.

.......
Notice that it is better to request the upload details sooner than a little too late.

Have fun!

Trond I'm having a little trouble with Windows 10 mail. It's not sending out my emails for the upload info, but I can receive them. Hopefully I can fire up my old windows 7 machine to see if I can get an email out. Still got to edit my video but should have something by Sunday night.

Re: UWOL 50 - Tales of wonders and woes

Barring a major disaster, I'm almost done. I've done all the editing and just need to add a little narration to make it make sense.

I did get a big scare about an hour ago when I tried to export it from Premiere Pro CC 2018. For the first time ever, it locked up when I tried to select a "Save As" name for the video. I was REALLY panicked, but just selecting to save it in a specific resolution made it go through smoothly.

Hope everyone else is finishing up with great stuff. I'm not really happy with mine because of all the things I could have done differently and better, but at least I got it done this time and I learned SO MUCH that I hope to apply in the future.

Re: UWOL 50 - Tales of wonders and woes

If anyone else is planning to submit an entry, but haven't received upload details for Vimeo yet,
hurry up and send an email to uwol@dvinfo.net.

Would be fantastic if we get 10 or more submissions.

Re: UWOL 50 - Tales of wonders and woes

Mine is uploading now. I'm REALLY disappointed as I learned today that I'm technically not ready to do voiceover narration. The sound quality was horrible -- not my voice, but the overall quality. I definitely have a lot to learn about getting that right. It changed my plan drastically this morning, but hopefully a few changes made the theme clear.

Still, I learned SO much and am excited about the next challenge.
