UWOL X Theme Announcement! - XXX LIVE NUDE FURRY CREATURES XXX
The theme is only half of this Challenge, so listen carefully.
The theme was suggested to me almost two years ago, when I first kicked around the idea, here at DVinfo, of putting UWOL together. Credit goes to one of our regular players, Grant Sherman (yoo-hoo, Grant! expecting big things!). But of course, I am going to put my own little spin on it, to help you all stretch in a direction you might not yet have attempted. http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showpost....0&postcount=23 The theme, then, is PSA (Public Service Announcement) - a 30 - second (or 1-minute) commercial spot that you produce, shoot, edit, and deliver for a planet- or people-friendly organization in your area, typically considered, but not restricted to, a non-profit do-gooding agency. The twist is that you not only need to make one of these -- to be eligible for judging, you also need to have yours broadcast by the sponsoring organization, on TV or on their website--or whatever form of mass distribution is effective for your organization of choice. Maybe DVD. Find out what they need, and deliver it to them, for them to use to educate us all about their cause. The broadcast does not have to actually happen in the contest time frame, but the agreement between you and the organization must be struck in that one-month time frame, in order for your entry to be eligible for judging. The extra week isn't just for shooting, it is for finding your subject and for building your relationship to your cause. Shooting pretty video is easy. To truly get good at this video thing, you have to know your audience and who you are serving. This will be the first contest in which your audience is not the contest and the other players, although we're in there, too.... I have no way to double-check these, so as with most things, we will rely on the honor system. You will get a lovely portfolio piece, you will make new connections and network in your community, and you may very well do something in service to this lovely planet that has served you so very well. You will also find out hard and how much work a truly professional 30-second (or one-minute) commercial can be. Remember, you are not shooting a 30-second video. You are shooting a 30-second commercial. This will be another important distinction to keep in mind. Nailing the genre is as important as the images you shoot. The planet has generously offered up many of its best images to the players in this contest. It is time to use your remarkable talent to give a little something back to the planet. You can save the whales, the wolves, the polar bears, the trees, the landscape, the environment, the water supply, the trout, the Baltic Sea. You can be a voice for the indigenous folks who may not have access to the tools of media. The only restriction is that you can't do any overtly political announcements, nothing for individual politicians or overtly political causes that support a particular political institution. If you're not clear, just e-mail me your questions in advance, and I'll greenlight it, or not. DVinfo policies restrict us from explicitly political discussions. Politics tend to be divisive, and UWOL is all about the hand-holding, the love and the inspiration that our muse, the planet, brings to all of us, so keep that vibe alive. Get out there and make the world a better place. One other note: since you're producing these for a local audience, you can make these in the language of your region. In fact, I encourage this -- it's time we had an entry that allowed us to share all of our beautiful languages from all around the world. If you do so, please upload 2 versions, 1 original and 1 English subtitled or else VO'ed in English on a single file (don't file your 2 versions separately, you'll confuse the UWOL team...). So get out there and shoot something. Our world, your vision. For Team Earth! Last edited by Meryem Ersoz; August 1st, 2008 at 09:24 AM. |

I always know it is a good theme when Per sounds nervous about it. If I can push him, the rest of us are bound to learn a little something...

Anyway, remember, you're NOT selling anything...you're giving something away. And you're not doing it for yourself. You're doing it for the love of the birds and the bugs and the trees. Change your mindset, and perhaps you'll change your mind. Once the initial shock wears off.... With a name like UWOL X, didja think this was going to be easy??? SUCKERS! |

hehehe, she did it..... again
You are something Meryem.
Today I have even filmed an eclipse of the Sun, 40 % covering the sun. On Svalbard it was 100%. Also started on my holiday tour today and I'm on my way North. Right now stationed in this area, "Atlanterhavsveien" (look at the picture). I'm heading way up North to Lofoten a very special and beautiful place in Norway. But how am I gonna make a PSA on this trip, I don't know :/ Perhaps I'll try to work something out along the way. After all I am planning to make a rafting tour on the strongest tidal current in the world, "Saltstraumen". Maybe if I can talk the rafting company into some deal? We'll see, for now I can't help laughing thinking of all the joy we bring you Meryem :) Good luck everyone. Geir Inge |

meryem,
I love the idea!!! However, The psa's I would like to do would totally not be acceptable to most organizations: One I started over two years ago, "Real Canadian Beef" The cattlemans association would hire a hit man if anyone published the fottage I have!! All outdoors and you may never eat beef again!! I have one great idea that I will email you about to see if it would be appropriate and I would be sanctioned or comissioned to do it. The trick is finding the source organization. Many groups have web sites and would be more than willing to post a psa on line. so those of use that live out on the fringes can still get a publication source. This is goning to be tuff. What a challenge.
