Hi Sassi,
I have an XL1s as well, and use a Rode NTG-2 mic, and get excellent results off the top of the camera. They also make some mounts to fix it into the exsisting mount from a company called K-Tek. On the downside to the Rode is it is very light, and in wind you need a good windsock, I have a nice one from K-Tek, buy you pay as much as you do for the mic. Around 300$ I make programs for animal planet and shoot in some of the most extreme conditions and yet have got praise from my sound mixer. You must use the XLR adapter, best is to split your mic with a y cable and stagger your channel levels, this way you can cover your butt. If you don't have 300 dollars, I have good results from the Apex 175 (I think that is the number) which costs around $100. I use this as a backup mic. Best, Michael |
