White tailed kite
Don DesJardin's combination of 3 clips shows this kite making 6 attempts to steady his head to focus within 20 seconds ... similar hunting strategy to kestrel. My first viewing of this species ... exciting and beautiful.

Don, Brendan,
A very nice piece of footage!!! I grew up where white tailed kites were common. They were nearly wiped out by egg collectors in the earlier years before protection. I never understood that until I climbed to a nest and looked at a clutch of eggs. I saw the most beautiful purple marbled eggs you could imagine, I wanted to pick them up, but instead I took a 35 mm slide of the nest with the eggs, climbed down, placed moth balls around the base of the tree and left. they fledged 4 out of that nest. I used to have some 16mm film of them. That was 1970, a couple days ago.
