Infrared Ready Camera
I have an Orion CHDC-34BSDC camera advertised on eBay. I bought the camera to try and improve on my Infrared results on the life of a threatened species that I had encouraged to live in a nesting box that I set up against one of our windows. The Brush-tailed Phascogale (Phascogale tapoatafa or Tuan) is a small carnivore that has a precarious lifestyle – the males die after mating at ~ 11 months and the female rears up to 8 young only to die herself when the young are just independent. The young males disperse and the females fight it out for the nest site. Our resident tuan line was displaced by Sugar Gliders (Petaurus breviceps) that provided me with more video material. Now the gliders have had a population crash and no longer use the window box. I don't expect either species to return.
The Orion has only been used for a few tests and is far superior to my original IR cameras. It has an HD-SDI / 3G-SDI BNC output and can be set to 60/50/30/25/59.94/29.97 fps in 1920x1080P or to 60/50/59.94 fps in 1920x1080i. Lower resolutions are available also. The lens mount is C/CS. A major advantage is that the Infrared cut filter can be controlled manually as can the exposure. |
