Golden Eagle a Portrait!
As a request for more Golden Eagle shots, I've uploaded a video to Vimeo. You'll find it here:
http://www.vimeo.com/1011529 This is shoot from a hide/blind and displays an adult male feeding on carcass. Distance to the bird was approx. 20 meter in this actual sequence. Shoot with Canon XLH1 + Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. When using ef-lenses you have to maintain focus manually and the fu-1000 viewfinder is a good tool for this kind of work! Enjoy!

Hi Per,
First, love the Capercailzie mating sequence some great close ups. Thought the Golden Eagle sequences had a few sharp/flash transition changes, I had to go back a few times to watch the reverse clip (1min.19) of the Eagle coughing out a small feather and getting it back. It’s got to be a great feeling to get footage of such iconic birds as those. Due to an old back problem I’ve been stuck at home videoing bees and flying insects in the garden, although I did get out Sunday and managed some footage of young Herons ready to leave their nest.

I've been updating my own website (had some difficulties earlier), seem like the quality of footage is slightly better at my site than vimeo!
Here's is the link for the golden eagle portrait: http://video-film.no/snutter/kongeorn.html Enjoy!

Now I'm really jealous.
I've been just as close to the Golden Eagles in Bulgaria as you have in Norway, Per Johan, but your Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 has brought you so much closer that there's a moment in your clip when we see a rare side-on view followed immediately by a head-on view of the pupil of the eagle's eye when the eagle turns its head. And the plumage detail and colours are beautiful. Wonderful video. I'm going back to Bulgaria in autumn, so I am! |

per Johan,
The footage on your web site is definitely sharper and clearer than that at vimeo. The vimeo is still very good. I would be curious as to what settings you are using rendering it for your web site!! You use squeeze 4.5 as I recall. I down loaded the trial version and have been tinkering with it as my Web site is not that far away from going on line, but I want to have any video look as sharp as possible but still readibly downloadable as yours was.
