Diving Lundy 2009
Anyone interested in having a UWOL meet on Lundy Island sometime in 2009? I don't dive myself - but it's meant to be good around here. Any thoughts?
Grant

Hey Grant, that sounds like a good idea. I don't dive either, despite being surrounded by the sea (there's enough stuff on land and on top of the sea to keep me going).
However, am I right in thinking that you have to get a boat from north Devon or Somerset? If so, I'm on the wrong side of the Bristol Channel.

Hi Annie,
Yep, the boat goes from Bideford or Ilfracombe (depending on the tides). If you just want a day trip then the Waverley and Balmoral do trips across from South Wales. I'll see if I can find some more info on these boats. Have you been to Skomer or Skokholm? I'd love to visit those islands, but I don't like leaving Lundy in sea-bird season ;-) Grant

Hi Grant
I know Skomer and Skokholm very well, having been visiting them since 1981 - and my ex husband worked on Skomer for eight years as the "seabird assistant". I do guided trips for the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park around Skomer Island on Wednesdays during the summer. Unfortunately in recent years I haven't had much time to do personal visits for photography or video. One day I'll get to Lundy - it just hasn't happened yet.

Pembroke's a lovely part of the world. I've only been there the once. We did a conservation weekend when I was at Cardiff Uni. We were clearing gorse from St David's Head. Stayed in Mathyr - nice pub!
I'll have to see if I can get the Lundy Warden to organise a trip to Skomer - so we can steal some of your puffins! I've just looked up the day trips from Swansea to Lundy on the Balmoral: http://www.waverleyexcursions.co.uk/ They all appear to be on Wednesdays.

Hm, maybe I can persuade the Pembrokeshire Bird Group to have a day trip to Lundy as a summer field outing. Which month would you recommend?
