Bogen 516 problem

I just rented a Bogen 516 head and there is no tension at all when I pan. I get drag for up and down motion but not for side to side. The screws underneath the head are tight so I'm assuming they rented me a broken tripod head. Is there anything I can do to fix the head because there is no time for me to run back to the rental place.

Thanks
-Jim

Did you tighten the drag knob located under the base of the mounting mechanism? Clockwise will tighten it. Give it a try. If that still doesn't fix it then yeah sounds like the head could be kaput!
