How to go from Tripod to Monopod quickly?
I have been trying to figure out how to go from my Manfrotto 501HDV tripod to the Manfrotto 562b Monopod without having to switch base plates. The two plates are different sizes. Is this even possible?
Thanks for any help with this. |

This is a problem with Manfrotto (and possibly other manufacturers) who make tripods etc for different purposes. Most of my tripod heads (for stills cameras) take one type of baseplate, but the geared head I use for macro takes another. I have to work out what camera/tripod combinations I am going to use in advance - and often I get it wrong, change something and find I've gone out something vital. I have a spare baseplate for my libec head in my stills camera bag so that I can use the stills camera on the video tripod.
The only way round your problem is to get a head for the monopod that takes the same baseplate as the 501HD - which may well mean getting another 501HD. Hmm, now you've got me wondering if the baseplate on the 501 would fit the libec?

Aye - that's what I thought. Good to know for the future. For now I'll be fastest base plate changer in the west. :)
Thanks! |

Get a Manfrotto adaptor plate, (MN577), which consists of a plate and reciever.
Screw your monopod plate to the bottom of the 577 receiver, now plut this back onto your monopod, your 501 hdv plate will now slide in. You also now have a spare 501 plate. Annie, you can do the same thing with your Libec. Paul.
